About Aleesa
Aleesa holds a Master's degree in counselling psychology from Simon Fraser University and is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Her approach draws on evidence-based frameworks - Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and strength-based practice - but she's not a protocol-follower by nature. Sessions are tailored, honest, and tend to get to the point faster than most therapy you've tried before.
Clients often describe Aleesa as warm and collaborative, but also someone who will "call out the BS" in a supportive way. If you've ever left therapy feeling like nothing actually happened, that's not the experience here.
Aleesa uses she/they pronouns and brings both professional training and personal understanding to her work. Cinnamon Counselling was founded in part because Aleesa saw too many therapy spaces that claimed to be inclusive without doing the actual work. This practice exists to be something different.
Areas of Specialization
We go where many therapists won't. Advanced training in areas many clinics still avoid.
Couples Counselling
Communication, intimacy, trust, and big transitions for all relationship structures.
Sex Therapy
Desire differences, intimacy, shame, kink-affirming care. Sex-positive and non-judgmental.
Neurodivergent Relationships
ADHD, autism, and giftedness in relationships. Adapted to how your brain actually works.
Discernment Counselling
Should I stay or go? Clarity Coaching for couples at a crossroads.
2SLGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy
Queer-affirming care with knowledge, not just tolerance. You don't have to come out twice.
Non-monogamy & ENM
Polyamory, open relationships, and ethically non-monogamous structures. We already get it.
ADHD Coaching
Practical executive function support built for how your brain actually works.
Religious Deconstruction
Leaving or evolving a faith tradition. Specific training and lived experience.
A note on Aleesa's thesis
Her graduate research focused on sexual challenges experienced by women raised in religious environments - work that shapes her particular skill in helping clients untangle shame, reconnect with their bodies, and move toward a more authentic relationship with their sexuality.
Therapeutic Approach
Aleesa integrates several evidence-based frameworks, shaped around you rather than applied like a template:
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Understanding emotional patterns and attachment - how you connect, disconnect, and repair.
Gottman Method
Research-based tools for communication, conflict management, and building shared meaning.
Strength-Based Practice
Building from what's already working, not just fixing what isn't.
Honest Feedback
When something isn't serving you, Aleesa will name it - with warmth, but without dancing around it.
Many clients say they appreciate that sessions feel like a real conversation - not a performance review or a passive listening exercise. Oliver the therapy dog joins every in-person session, and for many clients, his presence helps reduce anxiety and makes opening up easier.
