Not sure whether to stay or go? Let's get clear.
Clarity Coaching — also known as discernment counselling — is for couples where one or both partners aren't sure the relationship can be saved. It's not couples therapy. It's something you do before you decide.

Clarity Coaching (also called discernment counselling) is a short, structured process designed for couples at a crossroads.
It's specifically for situations where one partner wants to work on the relationship and the other isn't sure — or where both partners are questioning whether to stay together at all.
This is not couples therapy. You won't be working on your communication skills or doing homework between sessions. The goal is much more specific: to help each of you gain genuine clarity about what you want to do next.
Who It's For
You might be the right fit for Clarity Coaching if:
One of you wants couples therapy and the other isn't sure
You've been going in circles about whether to stay or leave
You've already tried therapy and aren't sure it helped
You're separated or considering separation and want to make a thoughtful decision
You want to understand how you got here before deciding what to do next
What to Expect
Clarity Coaching runs for a maximum of 5 sessions (1.5 hours each), starting with an extended 2-hour initial session. Sessions combine time together as a couple and individual time with the therapist.
By the end, most couples have reached one of three paths:
Maintain the status quo
No immediate change, but more understanding of what's happening in the relationship.
Separate
With more clarity, dignity, and mutual understanding than before.
Commit to couples therapy
A genuine, informed decision to work on the relationship for a defined period and then re-evaluate.
The goal isn't to push you toward any particular outcome. It's to help you make a decision you can actually feel good about — because you understand what happened, and what's possible.
Why This Matters
Research on divorce is sobering: studies suggest that up to 50% of people who divorce later wish they had tried harder to save the marriage. Another study found that in 75% of couples, at least one partner had regrets about divorce one year later.
That's not an argument against divorce. Sometimes separation is absolutely the right path. But it is an argument for making the decision with full information, genuine clarity, and without years of regret about the process.
Clarity Coaching is designed to give you that.
Our Approach
Aleesa Sutton, RCC has specific training in discernment counselling and brings a careful, even-handed approach to this work. She doesn't take sides, push agendas, or try to save marriages that shouldn't be saved. The work is genuinely about your clarity — not a predetermined outcome.
Many clients describe the process as profoundly valuable even when the outcome is separation — because they finally understood what happened, and felt seen in the process. If you decide to separate, Aleesa also offers divorce coaching to help you navigate that transition with dignity.

FAQs
"People marry each other for profoundly important reasons, and no one should divorce until they deal with those things that caused them to marry and then want to divorce each other."
